Hunger Relief

-Food Baskets-

Food Baskets, known in Brazil as “Cesta Básica” are a very sought after item by the poor people. These packages are made up of the basic food items needed by each family, as deemed by the government. Unfortunately, prices are always going up, making it difficult to afford.

Through the donations of others, we have been blessed to be able to provide many of these food baskets to hungry people over the past years. This has opened the doors for many to hear the Gospel and see Jesus Christ, through his servants, in action. Our goal is to “Feed My Sheep” not only spiritually, but physically as well.

Each Food Basket costs approximately $36 dollars and generally contains the following:

*items may vary depending on availability and recipients current needs

2 bags of rice (5 kilos each)
2 bags of beans (1 kilo each)
1 can of cooking oil (900 ml)
1 bag of salt (1 kilo)
1 bag of flour (1 kilo)

1 bag of manioc flour (500 grams)

1 can of corn (140 grams)

Sardines (135 grams)

1 bag of cornmeal (500 grams)
Seasonings (300 grams)

2 bags of sugar (1 kilo each)
2 bags of coffee (500 grams)
2 cans of tomato paste (140 grams each)
2 bags of noodles (500 grams each)
1 Jell-O (85 grams)

With the donations received for Hunger Relief we purchase items used in the food baskets at wholesale grocery warehouses. Then, back at A.M.O.’s headquarters our volunteers separate and pack up each basket to be delivered in the favelas.
